Metal can be installed over existing shingles in some cases, often using a furring/batten system. It can save on tear-off labor and disposal.

Why we usually recommend a tear-off in Florida

• Code & inspections: Florida’s strict codes often require evaluating the decking underneath — which you can’t do without removing the old roof.
• Hidden damage: old shingles can hide rotted or soft decking that must be fixed for a wind-rated install.
• Moisture & longevity: trapping old materials underneath can cause moisture issues and shorten your new roof’s life.
• Insurance/warranty: a clean install on sound decking is easier to document for wind-mitigation credits and warranties.
